At Summerhill, we believe that who a child becomes is shaped as much by what they do outside the formal curriculum as inside it. Our extra-mural programme is intentionally broad and rich - offering every student the chance to discover a passion, develop a talent, and grow as a person.
From competitive sport to creative arts, from chess and coding to marimba and drama, our activities develop discipline, confidence, teamwork and resilience in ways that no textbook can. Every child is encouraged to participate - not just the naturally gifted.

Competitive Sport Across All Seasons
Summerhill competes at a high level across multiple sports, with dedicated coaching, proper facilities, and a culture that values both participation and performance.
October - March
Summer Sports
Our summer programme runs from Term 4 through Term 1, featuring water-based and warm-weather sports with competitive fixtures against other schools.
April - September
Winter Sports
The winter season runs through Terms 2 and 3, with regular league fixtures, tournaments and development opportunities for players at all levels.

Creative Expression at the Heart of School Life
Cultural activities at Summerhill are included in school fees - a deliberate decision that ensures every student has access to the arts regardless of their family's circumstances. Music, drama, visual arts, chess and performance are woven into school life across all phases.
Our students perform at Eisteddfods, compete in chess tournaments, exhibit artwork, and take to the stage in full school productions. The cultural programme builds confidence, creativity and self-expression in ways that complement academic achievement.

Mind Sport
Chess - Developing Strategic Thinkers
Chess is embedded across the Summerhill programme from Junior Primary through Senior Primary. Far more than a game, chess develops patience, concentration, strategic thinking, and the ability to plan ahead - skills that transfer directly into academic and life success.
Our chess players compete in interschool tournaments and have consistently produced strong performers. The programme is open to all, and beginners are welcomed and mentored by more experienced players.
